PHOTO MONTH 2025

RESONANT BODIES

Curated by Vali Mahlouji

Hosted within the Ragged School Museum—an educational institution set up in 1877 for some of the poorest children in the Victorian East End—this exhibition brings together three London-based artists: Emma Summerton, Osman Yousefzada, and Carolina Mazzolari. Although arriving from different departure points, their practices converge in an exploration of emotionally charged stillness and movement, where photography serves as a medium for mapping the inner terrain of memory, intimacy, and transformation.

Emma Summerton’s 14 Spells series moves between states of charged stillness and unfolding movement, conjuring atmospheres where interior experience presses against the surface of the photographic image. Her works open up spaces that are at once delicate and forceful, intimate yet expansive.

Carolina Mazzolari’s series Emosphere charts what she describes as an “inner emotional architecture” — a fluid, ever-changing geography of the self. Feelings shift here, just as landscapes do, sometimes suddenly, sometimes gradually, translating the unseen into a tangible form.

Osman Yousefzada turns to photography as a vessel of personal reflection. His works become intimate meditations through a queer sensibility, negotiating connection and disconnection with the figure of the mother. Rocks, bodies, and traces serve as anchors and ruptures — images of both belonging and estrangement.

Together, these artists invite viewers into shifting emotional landscapes — architectures of feeling that echo within the Ragged School Museum’s walls, where histories of care, loss, and resilience reverberate.
